Valletta Malta

Malta is a beautiful Mediterranean island country known for its rich history, stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and crystal-clear waters. It is located in the central Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and the North African coast and is a crossroads of various cultures.

Malta has a mix of influences from the different civilizations that have ruled the island throughout history, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, Knights of St. John, French, and British.

Malta’s capital city is Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with impressive fortifications and Baroque architecture. The island is also home to charming towns and villages, such as Mdina, known as the “Silent City” due to its tranquil atmosphere.

It has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples, and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, an underground complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C.

Malta is a popular destination for tourists seeking sun, sea, and history. There are plenty of activities to enjoy, including water sports, diving, exploring ancient ruins, and indulging in delicious Maltese cuisine. The people of Malta are warm and welcoming, making visitors feel right at home.

We arrived in the walled port city of Valletta, and we took a walk through the old town midday to view the architecture and sites within the city. Yes, we climbed the steps.  Even centuries ago, city groups like HOAs required buildings in the piazza to be painted green or incur an additional tax.

Several large group tours were available; however, it is easier to look up key information beforehand and then view the city in person vs. a large group.

Overall, we recommend Malta, which offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. This makes it a must-visit destination for travelers looking for a relaxing yet enriching experience that showcases the various cultural influences, especially the British.
